Why bother

Yields. A farm with cover, drainage, and a backup variety usually loses less in a bad week.

Water. Drip, rainwater capture, and cover crops help in dry spells and in flood.

Pests. Mixed crops and pollinator habitat cut some of the pressure.

Soil. Compost, less tillage, and organic matter make ground that can take a drought.
